Lately I've been getting a lot of calls from people who have gotten a virus, cleaned it with Malwarebytes, but are still unable to get back online.

Much of the time the fault lies with a proxy setting that the virus changed, but doesn't get fixed during the clean-up operation.

Proxy settings are used to connect to servers. I use a proxy setting to connect to my internal server, but most users don't have their own server lurking in the basement, and therefor have know need for proxy settings. In fact, setting an incorrect proxy setting is just about the easiest and fastest way to get disconnected from the internet.

You can think of it like a little gift that viruses and trojans leave behind for you. Fortunately it's an easy fix. Let me show you how.

If you are using Internet Explorer:
1. Launch your internet explorer.
2. Tools ->Internet Options, Connections tab. Press LAN Settings

If you are using Mozilla Firefox:
1. Launch Mozilla Firefox.
2. Tools ->Options. Press Advanced and open Network tab. Then, press Settings button.

3. Select “No proxy” or enter parameters that were given by system administrator.
4. Press OK.Step 4. (Optional) Check your proxy settings on Mozilla Firefox
